This is a long/thorough review, grab a cup of coffee and have a seat:
Ordered this to replace 1) the wire organizers and 2) the need for a larger dresser in the small room. It accomplished both needs. We ordered the unit that includes 1) Base Model) Top Shelves 3) Doors 4) 3-Drawers. The rods are slide adjustable; no trimming needed. The only thing we had to cut was the top shelves. It took my husband and I 5 hours start to finish (minus the pre-assembled drawers).
Shipping: This was shipped in 3 different boxes/shipments. We received Shelves/Doors/Drawers fairly quickly and without incident. It took much longer to receive the actual base unit. This box is 80 lbs. When we finally did receive it, the OUTER box was beat up terribly with open ends. We were surprised to find that there was not more damage to the panels inside this box. However, each of the side panels did have a little damage that was “cosmetic” and wouldn’t affect the finished product, so we decided to live with it. I am certain Wayfair would have sent a new until had I complained, but we didn’t want to wait for a new one.
Assembly:
Because we received the other items first, we were able to assemble the drawers and have them ready to go. I am glad that we didn’t wait until the rest of the unit was assembled before working on the drawers.
--Lesson: Assemble drawers before starting the larger unit, perhaps even the day before.
Assembling the unit took much longer than some of the other reviewers note. Notably because we also had the top shelves, doors, and drawers.
--Lesson: If you purchase this entire unit, install the TOP shelves before installing the hanging poles. We had to move the poles to accommodate the shelves and provide ample room for being able to hang clothes on them.
A note about the rods – One side is obviously in the wall with anchors, but the other side is in the unit (particle board) with really small screws. Time will tell if that side of the rod system holds up to the weight of clothing.
Assembling the Doors/Drawers required some flexibility We wanted to assemble it like in the advertised photo with the doors at the very top, a space and then the drawers, with floor space under the drawers. Here are the challenges we ran into:
1. Installing the doors at the very top made it so they would not open due to the top of the closet frame. Solution: we bumped the doors down and placed one of the interior shelves right above the door to create a space above the doors. (Note Doors were fairly easy to install and offered lots of room for adjustment).
2. When we went to install the drawers following the instructions, we came up short on the numbered holes we were supposed to use. It could be that when we assembled the base unit, we put the bottom stabilizing shelf higher than it was supposed to be. If that was a little farther down, we would not had a problem. So we started over (which was easy because when installing the drawer slides, you are using the ‘shelf’ holes available to you). We started from the top down and then realized, we needed to put the last drawers under the stabilizing shelf. Turned out ok, but not our original idea.
Lesson: When building your base shelf, if you are installing drawers layout the drawer plan on the base before you begin. You can put the stabilizing shelf higher or lower if need be based on how the drawer placement works.
In summary, we love the finished product, it looks clean and organized.
