One of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Victorian Millais's version is beloved for its painstakingly natural realism, a practice rare in the period. The flowers near this legendary beauty are all symbolic: the daisy for forsaken love, the violets for faithfulness and chastity, and the poppies for death. The authentic stretched canvas replica captures the original painting's texture, depth of color, and even its brushstrokes, which are applied by hand.
