Although it’s not recommended to place it above a bed, I needed a shelf that wasn’t too heavy to install above my dresser and hold my projector. The wood that they are made of (which is a type I was not familiar with) is very lightweight, but seems sturdy - the boards almost seem hollow core when you first handle them. I took off one star because, while the dimensions listed are accurate, I was misled by the picture of the shelves being used for books and they’re really not deep enough for that purpose, unless you like a lot of overhang.. The Newport is simple at its best; tailored for any room, this mantel is created from medium-density fiberboard also known as MDF. MDF is a composite wood and is very commonly used for furniture, cabinetry, shelving, and decorative moldings. Mantel ships in 3 pieces; 2 legs and 1 header. The legs attach easily to the header with nuts and bolts. Mitered hanger board assembly is included for easy installation as well as a 3-piece mitered scribe molding set to hide any gaps after installation. This mantel has a 1 1/2" projection off of the wall leaving a nice pocket behind the mantel to accommodate your tile, stone, marble, etc. Projection: 1 1/2" Interior width: 48" Interior height: 40" Width outside leg to outside leg at base: 58" Shelf length: 65" Shelf depth: 7" Overall height: 51" Weight: 60 pounds. Look for the pearl inlay that graces the right-hand side of the shelf as proof that you have received an authentic pearl mantel. Paint grade only. It comes painted white and is ready to hang or sand and prime and choose your color.

The Windsor fireplace mantel surround has a 1.5" projection off of the wall leaving a nice pocket behind the mantel to accommodate your tile, stone, marble, etc. Light sanding and filling are recommended before paint or stain is applied.
