I love how open it is. I kind of wish this one came with the step. Im not sure if the cats would use it, though. I already have one, and it has the front opening. My cats are both good size. This ones a little bit easier. I think for cats to go in and out of. Im not sure how long the bottom piece will last as it seems to be more material than hard plastic. I have had this now for about a month and I love it. I plan on getting another one and replacing the other one as they use this one most often. The other is the typical small opening and the waste draw is small and always needs to be adjusted as nothing falls forward and I can't find the right size bags, no company to order supplies from.. So far I'm loving this automatic litter box. It does a good job of separating waste and the waste bin is fairly large. It came with a box of 45 waste bags as well as a litter mat which was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting. Because it's open on the top, it never fully closes when working so there's no danger of a cat getting stuck. It also has sensors that I tested with my hands to make it stop if it detects something in the box while it's cleaning and the sensors worked well. The pieces are manufactured so they be used on either side so know where you want the opening before beginning assembly. The cabinet has enough room to fit the PetPivot Large Open-Top Automatic Litter Box with a litter mat and trash bags. The cabinet looks nice and fits where I wanted it. The side opening is a bit larger than necessary so my cat still ends up spreading litter on the outside when she exits. Also, I wish it came in more colors (I'll probably end up painting it). Actually fits the litter robot 4 with room to spare. My cats took to using thr cabinet right away. There's plenty of room for my large 14lb cat to get situated.
