I purchased this to extend our usable space on our patio. It took 2 people about 5 hours in the Texas heat to put this together. We did have some experience with this type of assembly so that helped streamline things. It definitely needs to be anchored, but once it is the awning is quite stable. Nice for the price, but I too had a crimp in one of the base sleeves that would not allow the leg to be inserted. I was able to remove a small section with my Dremel tool and file it smooth.
