They are indoor cats but we wanted to give them a safe sanctuary when are not home. I put the structure together myself and it probably would have gone quicker if I had help but I took my time and the instructions were easy enough to follow. The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. I really like this litter box. It was easy to assemble and seems stable and sturdy and motor seems strong when the cycle runs. The size of the litter box is smaller than a regular box but is definitely large enough for a large adult cat. I actually appreciate the smaller size because the box has a smaller footprint and takes less litter to fill. The only thing I wonder about is how long the liner will last because it’s made of what seems like a canvas fabric (reminds me of the fabric of an outdoor pillow) and it seems like this might get smelly after a while. I bought this for my senior lady, who likes to be a little elevated, but doesn’t need to be on top of a tall cat tree. This is a little too high for her to jump up to on her own, so I gave her pet steps to reach it. She has laid claim to the top level and absolutely loves the furry fabric and large space (she’s a full-figured girl). Her brothers have been competing for the giant cubby at the bottom.
