The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. This tower is pretty good. It is sized for adult cats instead of kittens when most cat furniture is not. The cat shown in the photo is approximately 16 pounds and it fits them perfectly. I will say it doesn’t feel quite as sturdy as I was anticipating but I do feel it will hold up for many years. Love this! Debated about the purchase for a while, but finally went for it, and my cats are in love. Its sturdy and assembly instructions are straight forward. Plenty of room for both of my large cats (about 12-14 lbs each). I added some finer screening around it to keep bugs out (just stapled it to the frame) and created a wood frame that fits inside my window so it can be secured without attaching it to the exterior of my house.
