I love how open it is. I kind of wish this one came with the step. Im not sure if the cats would use it, though. I already have one, and it has the front opening. My cats are both good size. This ones a little bit easier. I think for cats to go in and out of. Im not sure how long the bottom piece will last as it seems to be more material than hard plastic. I have had this now for about a month and I love it. I plan on getting another one and replacing the other one as they use this one most often. Excellent sizing, have a tall kitty and a short kitty, works for both. The hole size is large enough also, for them both to get into. You can put the included blanket on the top or the bottom inside.
