"Washington Inspecting First Silver Coins, 1792" by John Ward Dunsmore portrays an important moment in American history—the beginning of the United States Mint and the production of the nation's first silver coins. In 1792, the U.S. Congress passed the Coinage Act, establishing the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia, the nation's first federal building. The act authorized the production of coins to standardize currency and promote economic stability. President George Washington was personally involved in the early stages of the Mint's operation, reflecting the importance of the institution to the young nation.

Not your father's pocket change, Scarce Coins to Collect contains an Indian Head Penny, Lincoln Steel Penny, Liberty Nickel and Buffalo Nickel. The Indian Head penny was minted from 1859 to 1909 and is composed of copper. It was designed by James B. Longacre. Legend has it, his daughter Sarah was the inspiration modeling a headdress given to the White House from a chief. No one knows if Sarah was the model as James B. Longacre once stated Venus, a Greek statue, was his inspiration for the design. The reverse was first designed to resemble laurel and then was changed to oak. The Indian Head penny was only minted in Philadelphia (which bears no mint mark) until production began at the San Francisco Mint in 1908. The Lincoln Steel Penny was only minted in one year 1943 due to the shortage of copper during World War II. The steel penny is the only regular-issue United States coin that can be picked up with a magnet. The Liberty Nickel was minted from 1883 to 1912 and is composed of copper nickel. It is sometimes referred to as the V nickel due to the Roman numeral 5 on the reverse of the coin. The obverse features Lady Liberty designed by Charles Barber. The Liberty Nickel first appeared without the word cents but because of fraud it was added in a later minting in 1883. Con men were trying to pass it off as the 5 dollar gold piece by dipping the coin in a thin layer of gold. The word cents was added so the public would be able to distinguish the difference between the coins. The Buffalo Nickel was first released into circulation on March 4, 1913 and composed of copper and nickel. The design was created to enhance the beauty of American coinage. The designer James Earle Fraser wanted to create something totally American and therefore decided upon the Buffalo which was unique and a large part of our western states heritage. The Native American Indian also fit right into his idea. Fraser claims he used several composites to draw the portrait of the Native American Indian Head which is on the obverse of the coin. Fraser said the reverse design was modeled after Black Diamond, a bison at the Bronx Zoo. But historians claim Black Diamond was never at the Bronx Zoo but was housed at the Central Park Zoo. Another bison, Bronx, was the leader of the herd at the Bronx Zoo. The placement of the horns on the nickel differ greatly from that of Black Diamond leaving one to wonder if he was the model. The American public deemed to call it the Buffalo Nickel since its first release in 1913. The four coins are displayed in a wallet style portfolio. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

What a wonderful way to begin a coin collection, with Coins Over 100 Years Old. The copper Indian Head Penny was designed by James Barton Longacre and the silver Seated Liberty Dime was designed by Christian Gobrecht. Issued during World War II as an emergency issue after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Hawaii Brown Seal Note was a response to a possible Japanese invasion. The $1.00 United States issued currency has the word Hawaii stamped on both the right and left sides of the face of the bill. A large outline of the word Hawaii dominates the reverse of the bill. The silver $1.00 certificate is also recognizable by the brown treasury stamp and serial numbers that adorn the bill. The Hawaii Brown Seal Note is mounted in an acrylic frame and may be viewed from both the front and back sides. A certificate of authenticity is stamped on the matting.

This board is great. The audio is perfect...not too much talking and not a bunch of crazy noises, just enough to let you know when it’s the next players turn or when you’ve thrown a good dart. Audio volume is just right. My family and I have really enjoyed it so far. This is our first electronic board, and now my 11-year-old is hooked on darts. We’ve had friends over to play and they also seem to be impressed with the quality of the board and features. Everyone really likes the cricket scoreboard on the side panel, and in a standard game of 501 the cricket board keeps track of how many darts have hit the board for each players turn. Certainly not an essential bit of info, but nice to have that visual confirmation. The number display for the scores could be a little bigger (for those of us older folks with less than perfect eyesight) but that is a very minor complaint. The darts are a little on the cheap side, as they are not very heavy and the tips wear down pretty quickly. I think we are starting to get a lot of bounce-outs due to the worn tips. That being said I’d rather have a great board and sub-par darts. Darts are cheap and easy to substitute at a later time. The exterior of the board is so-so...not the cheapest contact paper applique I’ve ever seen but certainly not a high pressure laminate or melamine. It is probably a high-grade vinyl appliqué or maybe a low-grade melamine. Exterior appearance was not of great concern to me, as it was all about the performance and function of the board itself. It certainly aces all of those requirements for me. The instruction manual is a little confusing for a first-time electronic board owner, but it is written in understandable English so that’s a plus. The power cord length is good (did not measure but it’s at least 6 feet) which allowed me to place the board exactly where I wanted on the wall in the room. I’m sure there are ‘A-grade’ boards out there with much higher price tags, but for occasional home or office use I definitely would recommend to a friend. We bought this with not the highest of hopes, but man were we VERY pleasantly surprised! It took my husband and I about an hour to put together but once you get it up and going it works great! It’s great for watching movies but we bought it primarily for his golf sim. The screen absorbs impact GREAT and he is VERY happy with it! This was a breeze to apply. Simply shook the container to mix the contents and then applied with a paint roller. Avoided work during direct sunlight hours. Re-applied until the container was empty. When the first rain came I noticed the water bead up and roll off of the driveway as expected. I will probably do this yearly to maintain the concrete. Best price I could find also.. Earl.
