It was destroyed by fire in 1697 in Chatham.

After 24 hours of fighting, the San Felipe was captured but was so badly damaged that it could not be salvaged as a prize. It sank with several tons of gold.

Impressive model! I haven't even removed it from the packaging as yet. I am a woodworker and planning to construct a case for it as I did for the Independence, a model I finished this year. Only question I have is about the masts when first received. Upon opening the top of the shipping box I remember all the sails were 90 degrees to the hull. Now after 2 days, all the sails are 30 degrees to the left. I included a shot looking down at the model. I was interested to know if others have noticed this or am I mistaken? Also found this after unpacking (see picture) of rear mast warped at top. The other noticeable item was the size of the rigging blocks, obviously too large but can be overlooked as they seem to accentuate the model when viewed as a whole.. Greg. Gilroy, CA. For the engine, he turned to the new up and comers of the auto racing scene – Scuderia Ferrari… On the morning of October 15, 1953, Achille Castoldi succeeded in smashing the 800kg class speed record with an average ''flying kilometer'' two-way speed of 150.49 mph. He followed up the performance later that day by setting another record in the ''24 nautical miles'' event with an average speed of 102.34 mph… Arno XI was restored in the early 1990s and was put up for auction at the Coy's Festival at Silverstone in 1997 where it did not sell. It was photographed skimming across the water as recently as September 2004, along with many other vintage racing boats...
