It arrived in a box that wasn't too heavy. It was neatly folded and included the tie-down hooks. The material is a type of plastic fabric—it looks like sturdy cloth on the outside and plastic on the inside. It appears to be more durable than other types of tarps; even so, the weather in my city is very changeable, so time will tell if it truly holds up better than other tarp materials.
