My mail was getting squashed and soaked in my old mailbox, so I decided to stop complaining and get a new box. Frankly this box was far more than I wanted to spend, but it seemed like a decent match for the front light I'd installed. And it probably would have been if I'd been sent the Gold Iridescent glass I'd actually ordered. Unfortunately, by the time I opened the package to install the mailbox, the return window had passed. At any rate, the mailbox is up, the finish is bronze, and I'm guessing this is the Champaign glass. Installation: A bit tricky if you have siding angles to deal with. It fastens to the house with two screws through two slot-holes on the back. However, there's a 1/2" ledge that stands out horizontally on the back of the box (over the screw holes). This ledge combined with my siding meant the provided screws were far too short. I hit the hardware store to get some 2" stainless steel screws to use instead. In use: I'd put this box up a few hours before it began to rain; the test envelope I'd dropped in is still completely dry. This box is also roomier than my old standard box, so that's another bonus -- more mail can be crammed in and the lid will still close. The lid has a rubber gasket underneath to cushion the lid drop and absorb the clunk. I do like this box just in general so far. Potential issues (aside from receiving the wrong box...): The small gap created by the back ledge between the wall and the mailbox may fill with snow this winter, so we'll see how that goes. There are also several random small holes in the bottom of the box (for drainage? for screwing something to the bottom? Dunno!). So I'm going to cut a rectangle of screen to place on the bottom inside to discourage the local hornets and wasps, who tend to nest near my steps and would find those holes irresistible. In the winter I spray my mailbox hinge with silicone regularly so the lid will open; if I don't have to do that with this box, I'll be pretty pleased -- we'll see how this goes.. Vickie. MI.
