I have never had a batch disposal before. I have always had the traditional ones that require a switch to turn on. The only real issue (and its not much of one) is with how our sink is in the kitchen island there isn't a good spot to set the plunger when not in use other than in the sink itself. It is powerful and I am really happy how well it does its job. There is no flap that covers the opening to the drain like on traditional disposals. I thought this would be an issue having it open and silverware falling in. With our drain off to the right it really has not been a problem. Although I did have a fork fall into it the fact that the disposals "neck" between the sink and the bottom is long so the fork never fully fell into the disposal it just stood straight up. Also not having that flap covering the disposal makes it much easier to see at a glance if anything has made its way in that should be there. It is noisy but not bad, just as I expected as from traditional. I like the safety of it not turning on unless the plunger is in. We have young kiddos. Just makes me feel better. I absolutely love this fireplace! After searching and reading hundreds of reviews over the course of two years, I finally decided on this one—and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The unit was easy to assemble, and the customer service has been excellent. I’ve already had to contact them to troubleshoot the heat settings, and they were incredibly responsive and helpful, which is especially important when making a large purchase. The only thing I would change is the placement of the power cord; I wish it were located on the bottom of the unit rather than the side. Also, while there appear to be three vents on the unit, the heat only comes from the center vent, but it's robust. I also chose to purchase the extended warranty for added peace of mind.
