It's almost imperceptible, but annoying. Also, we picked the natural color and expected variations in color and grain. However there's a black streak in the grain of the back piece. I have a dining table with an antique white finish, and this bench matches almost as if it's part of the set. It's a little more of a walnut stain on the top, but the painted legs are very similar.
