The world seems new again as morning's dawn slides across the scrub pines, ruggedly handsome cliff faces and distant waterfalls of the Yosemite Valley. One of the earlier paintings of the California landscape the artist held most dear, this work was a natural outcropping of Hill's study with the Hudson River School of painters where he first acquired the technique of painting en plein air.
