Turned out nice. Had this professionally installed and mounted the post in concrete blocks to give more stability. The metal pieces itself is lightweight aluminum but when connected together it’s sturdy. Only gripe are the shade connector poles. Their means of connecting could be improved because they slide off & disconnect from one another every now & then but so far holds up well with rain when shade is pulled back. It is very nice and more sturdy that I thought it would be. We didn’t bolt it to the deck because we didn’t want to drill into Trex. But we did bolt it to the house which worked good. The instructions are a little confusing in some parts because the pictures are tiny. And after I sliced my finger pretty good on the metal roof, I understood why they give you gloves. Razor sharp. I ordered this Shade Replacement Canopy for its name. I lost 2 of three huge spruce trees in my yard. Meanwhile we have now got 90” heat while I am trying to rehab the sudden parched weedy dirt whey used to call home. This retractable pergola would have been the perfect solution in my damaged patio enclosure way back 2010. The issue I initially had is the color of the canopy. The color of the canopy is dark gray that is close to black which is as I see in the photo looks is lighter. The reply to my wish to switch this canopy turns disappointing because this is the only one they have. I had it already installed by my paid installer so no way I can return the whole item. I like the materials all in all.. Heavy and strong. I cannot move the box compared to the first one that I ordered in other store which I did not even open because I can tell by the weight of the item shipped. That is the reason why I still make a 4 star review and I accepted the 10% refund to use as remedy and buy a fabric paint that will make the canopy water proof . Water leaks when it rains. I still love this because of being retractable and really fits half of my patio enclosure that has still the screened structure around intact even without the roof that was damaged by the snow storm in 2010. I use my patio as my workshop room and growing plants . I will be buying another one to complete the whole enclosure project. What we like is the material is heavy duty, and should stand up to sun loads. What we did not: 1).Center support opening has no loops to attach to the hangers. This resulted in having to utilize Zip-ties to make up for the lack of center support. Failing to support the center results in a "swayback" droop in the middle. Each end has an elastic to attach to the existing loops on your frame, why not the center too? 2).The original canopy also had tie offs on each end to prevent it shifting back & forth. I have a very small patio and it gets so much sun I rarely use it. This was a good solution. I did add curtains (with velcro tabs) and some lights. Theres ONE tricky part when assembling, the part where the legs go into the frame have a slight slant, if theyre not in the correct corners, the legs go every which way!
