It works well for this and will hold 20-24 bottles. The lids fit securely and even when loaded heavy the storage bins feel strong and well made. I love that they are stackable because I am always needing to reduce storage floor space. They seem to stack well but I still try to put heavier items on bottom and lighter on top. I am sooooo pleased I did because if I bought a "pencil pouch" it would've been full of fragments of the pencils & spill all inside my backpack, but since this is a box, that does not happen. Although the chips of the pencils still collect at the bottom nothing a little water can't fix, unlike how those cloth or fabric "pencil pouches" can't be rinsed out unless you dry them, and afterward they just feel strange.
