This covers a 16x12 pergola to each outside edge purlin with the use of bungee balls. It does pool small amounts of water after rain but does evaporate. This shade sail is made of a thick but flexible material that should provide just the right amount of protection from the sun without being a total "sunblock" (or completely waterproof) and the reinforced attachment points on the sail seem sufficiently strong. I haven't yet installed it, but the included kit appears to be very comparable to the separate installation kit I ordered just in case the included kit was flimsier or more difficult to use. This particular brand of sail offered a lot of different size options, which is ideal if you are looking for a sail to fit a space with unequal distances between the triangle points. The sail I ordered measures 20' x 20' x 28.3'. it came with a installation hardware kit but I can't yet comment on whether the hardware kit works well. I also ordered another hardware kit in case I needed a different installation option than the one included. Unfortunately, Wayfair said it delivered both when I never received the additional hardware kit. After waiting 3 days to see if there was a problem with how the item was scanned, I have reported the missing delivery and hope that I will receive that other installation kit so that I can choose which kit will work better for installing the sai.. This was an experience. First, I couldn’t clear the utility lines at my house but my friend’s deck was perfect. We started out confident, but it didn’t last. The wrenching apparatus was our downfall. In the end we decided to forgo the winch process and hung it only using the locking mechanisms. The sail is great. It feels strong yet pliable and it’s the perfect shade of summer red. Love these Royal Shade sun cloths!! I've purchased several of these to cover numerous outdoor areas that need protection from the sun. They are durable but flexible and allow rain and air to flow through them. They have heavy duty grommets approx. every 12 inches to help secure the shade cloth which really helps because many companies don't have this many grommets and the sunshade ends up flapping and tearing in the wind. These sun shades are so practical, affordable, and easy to install. I highly recommend these for anyone who needs more shade or protection from the sun!
