Light: Philodendrons prefer bright indirect sunlight but can grow in lower light conditions. If your home doesn't have enough natural light, use LED grow lights for 8-10 hours a day as a supplement. New leaves may be smaller and colors may fade in low light conditions. Water: Water thoroughly after soil is almost dry, more often in the growing season and less frequently in winter. Test soil for dryness by picking up the plant. Water more often in warm or hot conditions. Temperature: Philodendrons love warm temperatures of 65-85F and benefits from air circulation. Keep away from cold drafts and hot temperatures over 90F. Humidity: Philodendrons can handle most household humidity levels but grow more rapidly with humidity above 60%. Increase humidity with pebble trays, grouping plants, or a cool mist humidifier. Fertilizer: Philodendrons benefit from regular fertilizing and should be fertilized with a weak solution of complete liquid fertilizer every two weeks during growing season. Do not fertilize during winter unless the plant is still growing.

The philodendron Congo Rojo is an attractive warm weather plant that produces showy flowers and interesting leaves. It gets the name rojo from its new leaves, which unfurl in a deep, shiny red. As the leaves mature, they fade to a burgundy green color. Caring for a philodendron Congo Rojo is very easy, as long as you keep it warm. The plant is very cold sensitive and will suffer serious damage below 40 F. (4 C.). While it can tolerate short periods of extreme heat, it will also have trouble if exposed to temperatures over 100 F. (38 C.) for too long. Its ideal temperatures are between 76 and 86 F. (24-30 C.) during the day and between 65 and 72 F. (18-22 C.) at night. As members of the philodendron family, Red Congos prefer bright indirect light, though they can adjust to medium levels of light as well. Keep them out of harsh direct sunlight, as too much of it can burn their leaves. Let your Red Congo dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly when topsoil is dry, usually once a week. Avoid overwatering, and note that your watering schedule may be less frequent during winter months. Native to South America, the Congo Rojo is different from many other philodendrons in that it doesnt have a climbing or vining habit. Growing instead in a self-heading manner, it grows both outward and upward, peaking at about 2 feet (61 cm.) in height and 2 feet (76 cm.) in width. Its flowers are very fragrant and come in shades of red, green, and white.

Philodendrons are tropical plants native to Central and South America. These evergreen perennials belong to the Araceae familythe same family as pothos plants. There are hundreds of philodendron species, each with its own unique cultivars. The most common philodendron plants produce long vines or stems adorned with thick, waxy, dark green leaves. They can be planted indoors year-round and are fast growers. Depending on the species of philodendron and the size of the container they're planted in, they can grow anywhere from one to six feet long and equally wide. Philodendrons are also a great plant choice to purify the air in your home. Theyre best planted in the spring, but houseplants typically can be started with success at any time of year. This species typically grows best in partial sunlight. Philodendrons need sun, but they would naturally receive dappled light under a tropical canopy rather than direct light. Indoors, set them up by a window that gets bright, indirect light. Philodendrons like loose potting soil thats rich in organic matter. The soil must have good drainage. For container plants, its recommended to replace your philodendrons soil every couple of years or so. These plants are sensitive to salts that accumulate in the soil via watering, which can cause leaf browning and yellowing. The temperature tolerance of philodendrons varies based on the species. In general, they should not be exposed to temperatures below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoors protect them from cool drafts, such as those from an air-conditioning vent.

This philodendron is easy to care for and grow indoors as a houseplant. It appreciates bright, indirect light; well-draining soil; and regular watering. While the philodendron micans does produce flowers in the wild, it is extremely rare for them to flower indoors and when they do, the blooms are fairly insignificant compared to their brilliant foliage. The philodendron micans enjoys bright to medium indirect light. Avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight as it can burn the delicate leaves, causing discoloration and crispy edges. This tropical aroid requires an airy, moist, well-draining soil mixture that is rich in organic matter. While it can technically survive in a standard potting soil, the philodendron micans will thrive in a custom soil mix designed to meet its needs. Water your philodendron micans once the top 2-3 inches of the soil have dried out. Another easy way to tell if your micans needs water is to check the leaves: once it is thirsty the leaves will start to droop and curl inwards slightly. Native to tropical environments, the philodendron micans thrives in warm temperatures and humid conditions. Typical household temperature levels are more than adequate for the philodendron micans, just ensure that you keep your plant away from any cold, drafty windows or air vents.
