At the rain collection area, a screened opening minimizes insect entry into the barrel while filtering debris from incoming water. I really like this rain barrel. The green color is more muted than in the picture. It’s more of a gray-green than olive green. I have two of these - the first is connected to the gutter downspout and the overflow tube on that one is connected to the second barrel. The first barrel is elevated above the second.
