These 5 degree, sloped, 4x4 brackets work perfect as an expander for a carport, lean to shed, covered pergola, cook shack, storage sheds and much more. I put together these and they work great. I got the base kit plus the extender. Only reason they got four stars instead of five is because while they came with bolts, I was eight short and had to run to the hardware store to get more carriage bolts, and of course I could not find them in black so they don't match.. Decent brackets for the money. Pros: Affordable. Dimensionally they are very consistent. Cons: I did have one start to separate at the top. I don't fault the bracket. I believe it happened when we were trying to stand the Pergola. I did order some corner braces as well to keep everything from swaying. One tip I would give is make sure you check fitment with your lumber before you assemble. I had to sand all of my pressure treated posts and check fit. I absolutely love this pergola kit to do your own over a patio space, but, the instructions in giving one any kind of direction on how long it takes and really showing someone what they have to do were so, so poor. Said it would take a half hour. How about a couple of hours just to figure out how long the would needs to be then a day and a half to actually finish it. Not everyone is going to have a stone patio already in place so we will take some time away for that portion. We used redwood 4 x 4’s and had to remove the stones already in place and we took deck blocks and made it so they went upside down and placed them in the three holes we had removed the stones from so we could drill and place the hardware on the deck blocks to make them secure. The one thing that we found when trying to attach them into concrete there is not enough room to attach your hardware to it. So you have to drill your hole with a concrete 716th drill bit which also not mentioned so we had to buy a couple sizes till we had that figured out and then the picture shows us putting it into the metal piece and then hammering it into the wholes where it expands and holds it in place like a milky screw does in drywall. The other thing was how easily the screw heads would just snap off when you started screwing them into the wood. They give you plenty of hardware but we still had to go buy more as that was a huge issue so many broke and found no instructions on where to really start placement of pieces. We had to take sections apart just to attach a piece that was already in place to have the 4 x 4. If my daughter in law wasn’t good at figuring this out I might be on it for a few months, she did a beautiful job and it looks amazing and I can’t wait to put up lights next to give the ambiance I’m looking for. Do better with instructions and better hardware . An amateur would get so frustrated trying to get those screws into the cement to make it secure we did a lot of “You tube videos to get it done. It's tough to find a pergola kit that's totally modular and has the ability to fit the size of any space. With the Bjorn Woodworks Pergola Kit, those days are over. This kit comes equipped with (4) Pergola Bracket Boots, pergola bracket shoulders, and all necessary lag bolts. The size and shape are completely up to you, just cut your timbers to your desired length and depth and assemble them.

The top and bottom mounts are used when a railing kit is cut into two sections to fit between existing posts and can be secured into many types of posts or walls. Fasteners are included for attaching the mounts to wood, metal, or concrete structures. A solid mounting surface is required. This add-on kit is only required when the baluster kit is cut into two separate sections.
