I gave the mattresses about two days to fully expand and was surprised at how firm they are. Most "firm" mattresses are not very firm; however, I weigh just under 200lbs and I sunk in about a half-inch. It is a soft kind of firm, not a hard, cheap couch kind of firm. My wife laid on the top one and she was equally, pleasantly surprised. That says a lot, coming from her, as she has a bad hip and is very particular when it comes to mattresses. I purchased this mattress topper to add firmness to my 2yr old memory foam bed. A little about the product. It was delivered rolled up, plastic shrink wrapped in a well protected box. Once the plastic is punctured the topper expands fairly rapidly. In about an hour it was full size. The topper is a bit larger than my queen mattress, but not overly so. There are straps in each corner to keep it from sliding around. They easily slipped out but I decided to run them beneath the bed frame and now they stay in place. The topper has added a welcome firmness to my bed. I can honestly say Ive been more comfortable and have slept better. Overall it ls a good addition if your bed is a little worn or soft.. Eric. I got this memory foam mattress topper for my child’s dorm room. She won’t be using it until this fall, but we took it out to air out, try out and show you the entire product. We’re then going to wrap it up until autumn. There’s no strong odor which is a plus. It looks bent because it just came out of the box and hasn’t been slept on. Just needs some time to fluff up. This mattress topper is VERY firm. I had to go back to the description in the product page and it calls it “extra firm”. This is true. I think it will be too firm for me and definitely for my wife. However, I got it for the RV and I think if we use as a mattress base, it will work very nicely for us as it will have a bit more cushion than the plywood under the mattress, like we have it now.
