Stainless Steel canisters are dishwasher safe, hand wash and dry immediately recommended to keep shine. The lid with seal is not dishwasher safe as the silicone gasket may deform with heat.

From reading online, the residue is likely from metal polish I wish the manufacturer did a better job removing this before shipping. Aside from that, I’m very happy with them. Nice big 32 ounce jars! There are four in the set and they come with labels. There is also a white marker to use with the labels. They can be used for so many things in or out of the kitchen. Love these. I wondered when I purchased them whether they would be a seldom-used, unnecessary kitchen accessory. It turned out that I use them very frequently.
