The shelf is very beautiful but the assembly took some time. If the pieces were better organized that would have saved some time. It's almost impossible to get through to customer service lately, and when you do, they are having "technical issues" so you need to call back later. Not worth the hassle of trying to return. Regardless, the first few steps are a big tricky to get through because the directions are less than clear. My advice is to put each sections together and attach, versus trying to build from the bottom up. It spins nicely, even on carpet and with a bit of weight from books and decorations. I worried a little after I ordered this, but once I had it up, I knew I loved it. It was an unusual piece for me to get, but I simply didn't have floor space for a long bookcase and this seemed like a solution, as long as it didn't look cheap or odd, and it doesn't. I think it adds a unique touch to the room. I absolutely had to hire somebody, a professional carpenter who's a friend of mine, to put it together, I'm not at all handy, so there's no question of whether I could do it. He decided to glue it, which is not in the instructions, as he felt it would be more stable over time. $90.00 was the charge for an excellent professional. It still swivels very nicely on day four! The parts were surprisingly dusty, and it was in between layers within the box so it was definitely there before it was packaged. Not the end of the world, but it was a lot of pieces to wipe down as I assembled. It also seems like it wouldn't have cut into profits too much to put the screws in two separate bags so I didn't have to dump them all out to find the 10 small ones for the rotating base hardware. Also, the instructions were terrifying until I realized it was just the same thing over and over - then they felt redundant. Solid construction, though the pine is soft and easy to dent. Holes are surprisingly well-aligned. The sticker labels leave some residue, but they were placed in areas where other pieces would overlap, so it's not a big deal.
