I followed the directions and washed the protective oil off of the metal brackets (warm water and dish soap), let them dry completely, and then sealed with clear polyurethane. Great shelf! Easy to install right into studs. One of the L-brackets was clearly less that 90° angle but it didn't actually make a difference. I hung it and everything is level. Great shelf. I am honestly debating buying a second because it would fit perfectly against the whole wall in the room. Only thing holding me back is just that this unit does has A BUNCH of parts. I gracefully gave myself two days to split up time to put it together. If you are a person who enjoys tedious instructions then you will be fine with building this. I also want to do negative one star because Wayfair turned around and tried charging my card 3x for this and i had to dispute it. My star rating is simply based off the shelf itself.. Tanya.
