This dehumidifier keeps my 700 sq foot apartment humidity levels below 50% -- if not on, the humidity climbs to the high 70s! It's not very loud--just a little white noise in the background that doesn't interfere with TV, music, conversations, etc. I do have to empty the tank every day (sometimes 2x), but it's easy to take out and dump in my sink so not a problem. I liked the fan much more than I thought I would. I just wanted a white fan that would fade away against a white ceiling, and it does that, but the ceiling medallion that I bought, unintentionally matched the design on the under part of the motor.
