This circa-1940 vintage Moroccan rug features a bold all-over multicolor abstract patchwork design in shades of red, green, blue, and beige. The overall look of the piece is at once minimalist, modern, and evocative of tribal designs. Moroccan rugs have typically been woven by tribal peoples for their utility rather than for decoration. These antique area rugs experienced a growth in popularity in the West when mid-century modern designers such as Le Corbusier paired the thick piled Berber rugs with their minimalist furniture. Many of these Berber vintage-style area rugs are woven by the Beni Ourain peoples from the Rif Mountains near the city of Taza in northern Morocco. Colors vary from neutral shades to bright, stand-out hues, with designs ranging from geometric simplicity to free-flowing abstraction. The primitivist feel of many Moroccan rugs makes them attractive to modernist collectors. From versatile flatweaves to shaggy hand-knotted area rugs or runners, Moroccan rugs are both decorative and functional. They are valued for their technical qualities, expert use of fibers, great tensile strength, and abrasion resistance. Without a doubt, the original tribal Moroccan rugs from the Doris Leslie Blau collection bring character and a touch of worldliness to an interior.

Made with hand-knotted wool, this 6x14 vintage Khotan runner rug, originating circa 1950-1960 from East Turkestan, is a magnificent artifact from our collection of timeless pieces. This runner-style masterpiece functions as a soulful bridge between ancient Silk Road symbolism and the sophisticated aesthetic of the mid-20th century. On the Design:This vintage Khotan rug is a lyrical celebration of East Turkestan’s storied heritage, uniquely capturing a "Samarkand" air through a scholarly, poetic lens. The composition centers upon a luminous, elongated medallion in deep indigo, housing a primary central rondelle flanked by ancestral vase motifs that reach toward the horizons of the field. This central sanctuary is set against a serene, sand-toned ground, uniquely punctuated by rhythmic, diagonal striations that suggest the shifting dunes of a desert landscape.Connoisseurs will admire the traditional interplay of gold, and teal blue—a quintessential Khotan palette that achieves a submersive, complementary beauty. Framing this celestial narrative is a series of refined borders featuring geometric cloudbands and Buddhist-inspired fretwork, which offer a rhythmic containment to the expansive energy of the field. The way such intricate, archaic elements achieve an elegant, modern presence exemplifies the very forgiving, sophisticated spirit of Khotan design. With its rare dimensions and evocative stippling, this rug stands as a testament to an oriental craft that remains timeless, offering limitless interior design applications for grand hallways and gallery spaces alike.Condition: This vintage Khotan Samarkand runner rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.

This gorgeous rug draws inspiration from the iconic and original vintage Moroccan rugs of the Beni Ourain rug weaving tribes in Morocco. These nomadic tribes have inhabited the Atlas Mountains for thousands of years moving their herds with the changing seasons. The area rugs from Morocco became an important part of interior design during the mid-20th century and remain so today. This modern Moroccan style area rug was inspired by these traditional designs, only using techniques make it perfect for modern interiors.

Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Morocco circa 1950-1960, this 3x10 vintage runner rug is a rare and among the most exciting new additions to Rug & Kilim’s mid-century curations from the region. On the Design: This vintage Moroccan runner is a beautiful example of tribal craftsmanship, rooted in tradition yet brimming with kinetic vibrancy. A rhythm of seven sharply rendered lozenges march confidently down its length, each one erupting in a high-contrast palette of crimson red, cobalt blue, and accents of a subtle neon green. These bold geometric forms seem to pulse against the striated brown field, which itself is a marvel of earthy nuance—layered in shifting tones of walnut and beige. The deep pile within the diamonds contrasts with the flatter surrounding surface, drawing the eye into their hypnotic core. Perfect as a hallway runner or as a textural accent in bohemian or eclectic interiors, this piece brings a jolt of color and originality wherever it lands. Its elongated proportions and vibrant medallions are a tactile memoir of Moroccan tribal artistry—authentic, raw, and one-of-a-kind.Condition: This vintage Moroccan runner rug further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.

This circa-1940 vintage Moroccan runner carpet features a bold raised pile multicolored all-over geometric design with eye-popping hues of purple, yellow and green. Whether used to connect adjacent rooms or to decorate narrow spaces, the vintage runner carpet is a striking modernist statement. Antique Moroccan rugs have typically been woven by tribal peoples for their utility rather than for decoration. These vintage carpets experienced a growth in popularity in the West when mid-century modern designers such as Le Corbusier paired the thick piled Berber Vintage rugs with their minimalist furniture. Many of these Berber carpets are woven by the Beni Ourain peoples from the Rif Mountains near the city of Taza in northern Morocco. Colors vary from neutral shades to bright, stand-out hues, with designs ranging from geometric simplicity to free-flowing abstraction. The primitivist feel of many Moroccan antique rugs makes them attractive to modernist collectors.

Dhurrie, a traditional Indian rug, has been distinctive of India for centuries. These relatively light but durable weavings are impenetrable to silverfish and other insects responsible for destroying carpets. Dhurries are an important part of Indian culture – they have always transcended social boundaries by serving in houses of poor and rich alike. The vintage Indian rug before your eyes is a unique example of this centuries-old craft. Its appearance differs from that of a typical, blue-and-white dhurrie. Although made in Asia in the mid-20th century, it carries a design bearing distinctive features of Art Nouveau. The geometric pattern is executed in subtle pastel tones, including blue, pink, green, white, and beige. The fringe adorning the edges softens geometricism and gives the rug a slightly whimsical character. This magnificent piece has survived until this day in excellent condition due to refined workmanship. It was carefully hand-woven by a skilled artisan in accordance with the craft. Provided a minimum amount of care, the flat-weave will withstand many years with no signs of wear, being the centerpiece of any décor.

Handwoven in wool, this antique Swedish flatweave runner from 1910-1920 is a prized example from the Scandinavian weaving traditions. Its low-profile, reversible construction and graphic clarity make it a highly desirable piece of textile art. On the Design:This runner is a refined and exceptionally graphic piece of Swedish folk art, capturing the rich, symbolic language of traditional Scandinavian weaving. The design is a masterful display of Folk Icons, featuring abstract yet recognizable symbols: stylized medallions, stepped triangles, arrow-like symbols, and abstract figures. These icons traverse the Natural Beige/Ochre field in a sophisticated, muted palette of caramel brown, slate blue-gray, and soft rose pink, colors historically derived from natural dyes. The precision of the flatweave technique gives these motifs a sharp, timeless clarity. Admirers of the craft will recognize this piece as a pure expression of Scandinavian design—teeming with the quiet, old-world charm and collectible graphic simplicity that defines the region's early textile heritage. This runner is a piece of design history as much as it is a durable, handmade work of art.
