Arrived in 3 separate boxes (the heaviest two at about 100 lbs), so be prepared for that. Assembly took about 4 hours from start to finish, so it's a real project. Did run into a few issues during construction. Two of the holes (right next to each other) were drilled too large, had to use washers so the screw wouldn't go through the hole. Would have been a hassle if I didn't have the part handy. Also, there was some damage... A bunch scratches, and the soft headboard had a pretty deep hole in the bottom. All that being said, the design is very solid. Tons of storage space, feels sturdy. Built in LED lights and plugs are a nice touch. Dimensions seem as advertised (though the listing said a 6" mattress works, and that feels a little thick for the 10" rail). The desk area is much larger than I expected, which is perfect. Also, the little shelves in the corner of the desk are a nice accent. I do feel like the directions are fairly easy to understand, and it was not hard to put together. My only complaint for which I took a star off is the squeakiness. It does squeak a bit when it is used, whether somebody's turning over in bed or climbing the ladder. Some small padded spacers might help with that squeak where it is metal on metal. My son loves this thing and it put together quite solid. The lights change color and have a remote, which he likes in concept. Nice big desk area. I personally would have preferred one with more storage built in, but this was the one he preferred and it works well (and you can use under the stairs and the side of the desk as pretty decent storage space)..
