I bought two, one for recycling and the other for regular trash. I ended up buying the power adapters as they seem to need full battery power to operate efficiently and consistently. With batteries only, the lids will barely open and you can hear it trying to open but will not, as if the lid is too heavy. But no issues with the electric adapters. I did notice that the pins on the hinges are rusting - there no water that comes into contact with them. I did spray WD40 on them and that seems to remove some of the rust and help them operate more smoothly.
