Other smart dimmers I found all wire into the switch. Since the switch goes to a plug, that means I'd be dimming both outlets. The remote switch allows me to wire the outlets normally so the other one can be non-dimming, and as a bonus, I got to add another switch on the opposite side of the room. My main gripe is that the switch isn't the most intuitive layout (particularly the dimming buttons), making it a little hard to use without looking. One thing to keep in mind is that the lamp needs to be in the on position or it won't work. The controller can be a little wonky, but it's nice to turn the light off without having to get up!
