We really like this clock! The only drawbacks are that the frame is plastic and the outside woodgrain is a decal and not actual wood but when you hang it up, it looks really nice. It also came with two extra set of clock face hands and another clock motor, which was really nice. I wish that it had had a center hang instead of two side hanging slots as this made it difficult to center and put up but overall we are happy with our purchase. The clock is quite handsome, and the overall appearance is better than expected. The color is exactly what I was looking for. The brown is very rich with just a hint of red. Dark but not espresso. A little light and it really brings out the character and color. The clock isn’t real wood but it isn’t plastic, which you get on some (often cheaper) clocks. The engineered wood does keep it lightweight, however. My one complaint is to get the clock and chime working is hair-pulling. I followed the directions to a T and the problem is the little hand keeps falling down to around the 6 o’clock mark when you try to set the time. I ended up getting it to work but without the chime.. My husband and I are extremely pleased with the Hermle Austen Clock (we chose the Cherry finished case, with the quartz movement). We researched for some time before deciding on this chiming, mantle clock by Hermle. First, the quality is excellent, with a German-made movement and an American-made case. Also, the Cherry finish is perfectly even, and the brass dial and handle are lovely, subtle tones. Just as important, the chimes sound wonderful -- almost as though we were in London and hearing Big Ben from a distance (there are 3 options for the sound of the chimes, we use Westminster).
