Schlage's privacy door knobs are locked from the interior using a push button lock on the interior handle with a small pinhole to unlock the handle from the outside. Privacy knobs are ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms, or anywhere a locking door is desired but a keyed cylinder isn't necessary.

We love the egg shaped knob. Easier to turn that a cylindrical shade and looks historic. Tricky to get the faceplate square and it looks less authentic if it's crooked. In the end we got them all straight and we love them.. Michael. Alpharetta, GA. Sun Oct 04 2026

Emtek generally makes an excellent product but I have had a few issues with some of the privacy latches. Replacing defective ones has been no problem, just a relatively short wait (2-3 weeks). We are replacing all the cheap builder hardware in our house with Emtek. I wish I could find an oval rose with a rope or beaded design, but I can not. The egg handle feels so solid and good in your hand. I am really pleased. BUT warning, before you buy some to try them out, note that these products are NOT RETURNABLE. I didn't notice and that was an expensive mistake for the styles I have not chosen to keep! That's the only reason for 4 stars.. Nia. Virginia. Fri Mar 19 2021

We love the old fashioned look these knobs add to our knotty alder doors on our new home build. The only thing I can add is you might have to chip out some of the wood (as shown above) for the strike plate to lay flush..if it doesnt you will have issues with the door closing properly.. Lisa. Absolutely love this door knob. It’s high quality and has a substantial look and feel: my only complaint is that 2 of the screws it came with literally just broke off in the door while screwing them in with a regular hand held screw driver. I have never seen that happen before. Due to not being able to get the body of the screw out without ruin in the door, I had to snip off the head of the broken screw and super glue it into place so that the door didn’t look like it was missing screws.. A little too shiny for my taste but hoping it will patina into a more muted antique look. Also, my contractor couldn’t get the knobs to be vertical for some reason, so it’s a bit awkward to use with a horizontal oval knob. But classy looking and fits very well in my Art Deco apartment..
