For anyone who is expecting brass, this lockset is pressed steel with a brass finish. The knob is hollow pressed steel too, no substance to it at all. I was very disappointed and returned, also be aware returns even if the product is mis-described, carry a fee for the shipping. I'll be thinking more carefully about ordering from Wayfair moving forward.. Stephen. Fredericton, NB. Wed Nov 16 2022

Restore the authentic look and operation of antique interior doors with the Prime-Line E 2294 Vintage Style Indoor Mortise Lock Assembly Kit. Designed as an economical replacement for damaged, worn, or missing mortise lock bodies, this lock assembly closely matches the traditional hardware found in vintage and period homes. Featuring a brass-plated faceplate, skeleton key operation, and classic mortise construction, it allows homeowners to preserve the historic character of interior doors while restoring reliable functionality. Constructed from durable case-hardened steel, this mortise lock is built for long-lasting performance and smooth operation. The lock body features a 2-3/8 in. backset and a 9/32 in. square spindle drive that accepts spindles up to 1/4 in. square. Designed for flexibility, the latch is reversible, allowing installation on either left- or right-handed interior doors. The included deadbolt and latch help provide secure privacy, while the traditional skeleton key mechanism maintains an authentic vintage appearance. This kit includes the mortise lock body, latch and strike plates, mounting fasteners, and two skeleton-style keys. Door knobs, spindle, rosettes, trim plates, and additional decorative hardware are sold separately. Intended for existing mortise lock door preparations, this replacement lock slides into compatible mortise pockets for easier installation. Review all dimensions and compare them with your existing hardware before purchasing to ensure proper fit. Installation Tip: Because the fasteners of the rosettes (purchased separately) require a solid surface to mount to, the large 2-1/8 inch (approximate size) holes must first be filled with a hardening filler, to then be able to receive the rosette fasteners. Products like Fix-It-All and Bondo Body Filler have worked well for some, but care must be used to avoid damaging any prefinished door surfaces during application and finishing. Installation Tip: Apply a small amount of Loctite ThreadLocker 271 to the set screw threads in the event they are loosening – Loctite must be purchased separately.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Installation was a breeze. The only issue is that additional size deadbolt plates should be included - the included plate is too big for the pre-cut-out in the French door, otherwise, it looks and functions great.. Xsgas777.
