very heavy brass construction with satin nickel finished. there is a matte almost plastic coating over the bar, but that will keep the finger prints off it. It is of solid construction and modern/transitional looking. the bar is rectangular and flat so holding it is not as nice a feel as if it was round but that is the look of it. Love these pulls I have them in my kitchen in different sizes and they are beautiful. when I saw them on line I knew they were exactly right for my cabinets and drawers. when I saw them on line I knew they would be just right but when I saw them when they arrived they were much more beautiful. Beautiful color and patina...antique gold. But, it's way bigger and heavier than I anticipated. Was trying to match another Ribbon and Reed pull from another brand, but alas it didn't match. Had to go back and order an additional pull to match it and return the smaller pull. This is actually a perfect appliance pull if you need something substantial and heavy.
