Great looking bookcase. The wood shelves were heavy and felt substantial. As another reviewer mentioned, this is not a true black and has a distressed finish which goes well with my other dark stained furniture. I like that the back of the shelves have a lip so that books don’t slide out the back. Putting it together wasn’t too bad, I was able to it by myself without help. Overall, I like my bookcase and after assembling it, it looks just like the picture. The instructions are made up of pictures and have few words that are written in broken-English, but are easy enough to understand once you realize they show you how to put together other, similar bookcases that are also made by this company. What I didn’t realize is that the bookcase is made up of four identical units that are stacked on top of each other. The nice part is that the placement of the shelves and units can be altered. So if you decide later on that you want to have the shelves slid over to create room for a taller object, or if you want to have two separate bookcases, you can easily do that. The only down side is once I stacked the top two units, I realized they weren’t exactly square with each other and I ended up using felt pads to make them look more level.. Heather. Livermore, CA. Easy assembly, strong, and attractive! I was able to assemble these bookshelves by myself without any problems. You thread the boards through the 'ladder rungs,' screw them into place, and then add the back crossbeams before securing the top to the wall. Love this! It fit the space beautifully. Lots of storage space. Great value! Relatively easy for my son to put together despite relatively vague instructions. You need a very large space to assemble it as you need to slide the shelves in. Another useful tip is to not fully tighten the screws on the bracing bars until all of them are attached.
