The wood is soft and can ding easily. I was also surprised that the back and sides were glass. I'm not sure if I missed it in the description. It is very heavy. It looks very nice

The quality is of this console is questionable. The console arrived with one of the side glass panes not in place. The pane was supposed to be glued in place and secured with a metal bracket.
