A lighter shade would have been too light against my woodwork and paint color. I didn't want them dragging on the floor, and I didn't want to attach the curtain rods to the wallboard above the window trim. I opted for 72" instead of 84". All of the drapes are behind plants and furniture, so the length doesn't show. Curtain rod is actually the one bought and did a review on, now with the blackout curtains. The curtains are velvety and the bedroom is now about 70 darker than before. I would have appreciated it mor if the bacoutwr curtain that faced towards the window was covered by a a much thicker material, it would have made a much better difference.
