No, the battery is not included in this package. 2. How many batteries do I need? Yes, there is a volume switch to adjust the volume, to completely turn it off you would need to remove the battery. 4. Can I adjust the cuckoo clock singing time? No, it has been manufactured and set to sing from 7 am to 9 pm. The previous version had a 6 am starting time but after some parent feedback, we are now having them from 7 am to suit the kid's wake-up time for school. 5. What sounds will this clock make? Once every hour, the door of the cuckoo clock will be opened, and the bird will be popping out and sing "Kookoo, Kookoo" according to the hour, for example, at 1 o'clock, it will sing once, and at noon, the bird will sing "Kookoo" twelve times. At the top of every hour the man chops his axe, the waterwheel turns, the dancers revolve, and the clock plays one of two different twenty-eight note melodies, Edelweiss and the Happy Wanderer. Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth which controls the timing of the clock. On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour. (Example: At one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times) The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is a sound shut-off device beneath the base of the cuckoo clock.
