An image of the dashabhujadhari Lord Ganesha. Possessed of (‘dhari’) ten (‘dasha’) arms (‘bhuja’), it is symbolic of Durga, who in many parts of the subcontinent is considered the mother of Shiva’s children. The dynamic quality of this murti could be seen in the nrtya stance (which is indicative of Shiva, His father), the language of the many limbs, and the lifelike gaze of those eyes.The pedestal on which stands Lord Ganesha is a medley of colours and textures. Bits of resin in ochre and shades of blue and red. Smooth, milky-textured stones cut into jewel-like shapes and strategically poised against the inlay. These are to be found down the sides of the pedestal as well as the surface.
