French painter, Toulouse-Lautrec casts the Moulin Rouge, a famous Parisian nightclub in the brightly-colored whirlwind of the Montmartre section of Paris, in a lighthearted palette. Toulouse-Lautrec said he lived wholly for his art and to paint life’s spectacles—circuses, dance halls, nightclubs and racetracks. Cabaret singer May Milton gazes out on the right, her face harshly lit in electric green.
