A significant moment of Biblis' life frozen in time is featured in this modern interpretation of a classical subject. This impeccable study of a woman illustrates the depth of Biblis' grief and loneliness after her twin brother has left her alone. From the Ovid, as the story goes, Biblis strips herself in her sorrow, wanting to kill herself but was saved and turned into a spring which is suggested by Bouguereau's skillful use of water echoing her reflection. French artist Bouguereau, was considered an Academic and traditionalist with modern interpretations of classical and mythological subjects. As a teacher, frescoesist and draftsman Bouguereau opened art to women and held coed classes. Popular with Victorian patrons in France and the United States, few could match Bouguereau's realistic figures touched with idealism. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand. This replica European style, bright gold-toned, ribbed frame is cast in quality designer resin with an acanthus leaf and floret border that draws the eye toward the beautiful image. Proudly printed and framed in the USA using imported molding.
