This lamp is stylish and ready to use right out of the box. It comes with a USB charging cable. The description seems misleading as it doesnt require batteries, per se (the battery is integrated into the lamp and rechargeable via the USB cable) and it does not change color (at least mine does not). That said, it gives off a soft, calming white glow. I especially like the modern, clean style. It has a faux bamboo wood detail on top and bottom, vinyl handle, and stainless steel onoff touch switch. The outer shell is fairly substantial plastic.
