This is because the higher the loft of the down, the better the insulating properties, and the less of it we need to achieve the desired warmth level!

I don't think I have gone a day without hitting the snooze button since getting this comforter. It is dangerously comfortable! It is not heavy at all, but warm and fluffy as can be. I ordered the california king and the it completely covers my king size bed with plenty of it hanging over the edges and tucking into the foot board.
