This mattress is THHHIIIIIIIIICCCCCC! I guess I didn't realise how deep 12 inches is, but I definitely understand why manufacturers make a big deal of telling you the thickness now. I put this mattress on an 18-inch bed frame, and I practically need a running start to get in bed. (For reference, I'm 5'6 and the mattress is a few inches below my hip) I personally don't mind making a little leap to get into bed. But if you have mobility challenges, you should put this mattress on a low frame. Other than that, it's quite soft; I would say closer to medium than medium firm. This is a great mattress for the price! It arrived wrapped really tightly and unfurled quite quickly. So I suggest placing it on the bed framebox spring before unwrapping. The package came with a tool for cutting the plastic safely so opening it was easy. We gave it the full 72 hours before using it and as you can see by the pictures, it came out great. The mattress shipped tightly rolled up with a box cutter attached. It unfolded quickly, and only had a slight manufacturing smell that went away within an hour or two of opening.
