This item had the potential to be a good piece of furniture, but we were unfortunately disappointed. The materials itself are pretty decent. It is a metal frame, and the fake wood that makes up the shelves is fairly sturdy. Where this item falls short is in the instructions and quality control. You need to be very careful with your attention to detail - specifically with the orientation of the metal frame pieces and their associated bolt holes. The instructions don't reference them early on, and as a result I later had to disassemble/reorient/reassemble the frame multiple times to get it right. This happened late in the instructions a couple of times, which generated a lot of rework. Because the instructions make no reference to the holes, it is easy to pay no attention to them and how they should be laid out. If you get this bed frame, I recommend looking through the entire instructions before even touching anything so that you have a clear picture on how the metal frames should be laid out, and more specifically where their all holes should be oriented. Additionally, having to reorient one of the 'wooden' shelf pieces led to the self-tapping screws not lining up with their original holes, which means there are now about 8 unoccupied screw holes in the piece, making it look petty bad as it exposes the inner particle board. Also in regard to the top shelves, the instructions don't call out exactly how to position them before screwing them in. They are wider than their frames, and so while assembling it you more or less choose whether to have it overhang on the mattress or wall side. I choose the mattress side, but found this was a mistake in the last step when I put the backs of the shelving area on and realized the shelf tops should overhang on the wall side so it is flush with the shelf backs. Again, clearer instructions could have avoided this. The frame corner opposite of the shelves also has little weight to it and nothing to anchor it down. As a consequence, it flexes upwards about an inch and a half off the ground. Not a huge deal, as it should be covered by blankets, but it isn't exactly a testament of the quality of the bed frame. In the realm of quality, a couple of pieces arrived damaged. Thankfully it is relatively hidden once assembled, but a 'wood' shelf piece had a 10" scratch in it and one of the metal frame pieces had a large scuff in it about 5" long where it looked like the surface had been dragged along something abrasive. We got it on sale for something around $290 (original price was something around $500-600), but if I'm being honest the quality is more around $150 (in my opinion). This price-to-quality disparity, coupled with the poor instructions leading to unintended damage and general frustration, made this a disappointment.
