It’s basically a nice topper for firming up a foam mattress, or adding a hypoallergenic layer overtop something that’s not rated as being very “green”. We first tried this over a firm latex pad, and it did not add much noticeable improvement in thickness or softness. Next, we tried this down pad over a 2 inch thick foam pad, and it made all the difference! I am not at all a fan of foam pads. However, using this topper over the foam pad makes the foam less susceptible to sinking! Love it! I love this topper. Although my husband doesn't. It is VERY smushy (which is what I like, and he doesn't like). It is quite thick, and we have a 14" mattress, so I doubt I'll ever be able to cover it with a fitted sheet. But that's okay because the material is soft and silky.
