If I could give this 10 starts I would. I used to have a competitor brand that had not so good suction - and I just thought that was how all home steam cleaners were, so I've gone a long time without having a steam cleaner in my home - and my carpets looked like it. Recently my German Shepherd has decided to mark in the house so I had to do something. This Shark steam cleaner is nothing short of a miracle. SO easy to use. And so effective. I cleaned 4 areas and the carpet looks like new - with no residual pet odor or strong cleaning solution odor. The suction is so efficient that my carpet was dry within 3 hours (with the help of a fan I set on it). Yesterday I came home from work on lunch and my Australian Shepherd had eaten almost a whole bag od treats and it gave her - we'll just say - digestive problems. it was a disaster on my area rugs - 4 different areas. I cleaned up the bulk of the "waste" first then set this Shark to work and let me tell you - my area rugs have not looked this clean since I first rolled them out. I didn't know if I was going to do my area rugs with this because I was worried about water getting through to the hardwood - but it uses so little water in somehow such an efficient way that there was no dampness on the bottom of the rugs... I checked in several places. When I ordered it, I was worried about the size of the dirty water tank as some of the reviews talked about how small it is - but to me it was perfect. Manageable. My older steam cleaner had a huge dirty water tank and it was messy and cumbersome to empty. The tank on this Shark is perfect to just pull off and dump in the toilet - give it a good rinse and click it back into place. Same with the clean water/solution tank. All very easy to manage. Trust me - this is THE one you want. I've now used it on regular pile carpet in the upstairs of my house and on low pile area rugs and it is nothing short of shocking on how well this thing works. Note - I've yet to use the hand tool part. The blue solution that comes with it is in a larger container than the main solution in the yellow labeled bottle. To me that should be the other way around. I use far more of the regular yellow labeled solution than the blue labeled one for the hand tool. And I ordered 4 sets of the solution in my original order - not knowing that this would be the case and again the blue bottle is bigger. I guess people use the hand tool more than I do. Anyways - in future I'll just be ordering the yellow label by itself... it'll take me a long time to work through using the blue label solution with the hand held tool. Bad knees and hands - so I'm just not one to get down on my hands and knees to do that kind of thing and the main part of the machine is literally so effective I haven't had to do that. Good luck. It's my new best frienemy. It works great, BUT it randomly leaks?! Our dog has started having accidents in his old age so we needed something compact to clean up after him. Slow and steady passes is the key. The suction is great and most surfaces are dry within 10-30 minutes. I've used it on our carpeted stairs, microfiber couch, and LVP flooring. Thick carpet needs a few passes for set in stains and to make sure you've got all the liquid out. For the microfiber, it worked wonders and dried faster than the carpet. Using it to clean up accidents on the vinyl flooring was really helpful, the suction came in clutch, I didn't have to worry about any liquids soaking through to the sub flooring, it dried almost instantly. The auto clean just cleans the clear head piece, so I took the advice of another reviewer. If you want to clean the hose then once you've emptied the dirty tank, put it back together and fill a container with hot water, suck that up, and repeat til your dirty tank water looks clear. So far, I haven't noticed any funky smells from it. When switching the head from spray to auto clean and back, it'll leak a bit of cleaner, no big deal. Unfortunately, I've noticed after some cleans that there'll be a pool of dirty water underneath the machine, not exactly sure where it's coming from or how to fix this problem. It could just be user error. Current solution is keeping a rag underneath during storage and when I'm moving it around for cleaning. I wanted to give 3 stars for all my complaints, but my only comparison would be a full sized carpet cleaner that I'd rented from a store, which only faded set in stains and took all day to dry. Compared to that, it's leagues better, light weight, somewhat easy to clean since most parts come off and apart except the hose itself, and it takes up very little room for storage.
