This is a beautiful Rose, Charcoal, Ivory, Gray, Brown, Blue, Multi Hand Knotted Antique Lilihan Saroukk rug from Persia. Its provenance is of 1930s and is in excellent condition for its age. It does not have any low pile or stains. This rug is identified as a Lilihan Saroukk because its floral design is very similar to the floral sprays used in Saroukks of the nearby regions. However, the shade of rose used in the rug is highly characteristic of Lilihans woven by skilled Armenian artisans. Also, the rug is woven in single weft Hamadan design. At a Palace size of 9 feet 6 inches by 25 feet and a rich color palette, the rug is a collector's delight.
Story Behind the Art: Produced south of the city of Arak by Armenians in Persia, Lilihan rugs are known for their design. Traditionally designed with a curvilinear lattice with traditional floral motifs, these rugs also feature geometric designs. The Lilihan rugs are woven using the sturdy Hamedan (single weft) weave and using a symmetrical Turkish Knot which makes it tightly flatwoven and extremely durable. With their soft surface, distinctive colors and exceptional craftsmanship, Lilihan rugs are veritable works of art.
