It’s basically a nice topper for firming up a foam mattress, or adding a hypoallergenic layer overtop something that’s not rated as being very “green”. We first tried this over a firm latex pad, and it did not add much noticeable improvement in thickness or softness. Next, we tried this down pad over a 2 inch thick foam pad, and it made all the difference! I am not at all a fan of foam pads. However, using this topper over the foam pad makes the foam less susceptible to sinking! Love it! We really like this waterproof mattress pad. We have a dog who sometimes has small accidents during the night. The pad fits our deep mattress easily and the fabric prevents any moisture from seeping through. One tip, we bought this as a replacement for the exact pad. Do not wash in a washer with an agitator. This topper is a dream! I was a little apprehensive at first due to the reviews of it changing colors and staining. I’ve had a topper before that changed colors and never stained so I gave it a shot. Let me say, it is completely worth it!! It did arrive slightly yellow around the edges but nothing stained.
