Weekend Engineering Degree Required
My brother and I spent our weekend assembling this armoire. We meticulously studied the instructions, compared the pieces, checked the numbers, and occasionally questioned every decision that had brought us to this moment.
We discovered four or five fairly major errors in the instructions. One page would tell us to use a specific part, then the next page would casually reveal that this was not what they meant at all. The pictures were so lacking in detail that assembling this wardrobe became part vision test, part jigsaw puzzle, and part engineering exam.
After finally completing it, we stood back feeling extremely proud of ourselves. Then we discovered that we could not attach the door with the full length mirror because one piece of wood had been installed upside down many hours earlier. Fixing it would require taking most of the armoire apart. We have decided that mirrors are overrated. We now have an attractive open shelving area instead.
One more important warning. Do not put blue tape on the veneer to mark where the next nail should go. The tape will remove the finish. Apparently, this veneer is emotionally attached to the blue tape and leaves with it.
Overall, we really like the look of the armoire. It is spacious, well arranged, and will hold plenty of clothing, which is exactly what we wanted. However, someone desperately needs to proofread the instructions and improve the illustrations. If the company needs help, I would be happy to assist.
